Julio Jones not focused on numbers with Titans: 'I've never been a stat guy'

Julio Jones isn’t worried about fitting in with the Titans. Nor is he worried about any potential downtick in production after joining his new team.

During his career, Jones has averaged 9.8 targets per game and 95.5 receiving yards per game, and the latter mark is good for the highest average in NFL history. But when discussing his expectations in Tennessee, the former Falcons receiver was only focused on one thing.

“At the end of the day, you want to create a winning culture. However you need to do it, you have to get the job done,” Jones said on his first Zoom press conference with the media. “My whole career, I’ve never been a stat guy. I’m a team guy. Whatever they need from me I’m going to do, and I will enjoy playing my role at a high level.”

That’s certainly good news for the Titans. Tennessee has the makings of a potential offensive juggernaut that will feature Jones, A.J. Brown, Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill.

With so many weapons now available on the Titans’ offense, they’ll likely be looking to spread the ball around quite a bit. Their offense has also skewed run-heavy at times because of Henry, so there were some questions about how Jones may respond to a decreased target share.

The team believes that Jones should be poised to make an impact, no matter how many targets he’s soaking up.

“His goal is to win, whether it takes nine targets, two targets or none,” Titans GM Jon Robinson said. “That’s the mindset that he has and the mindset that we want here.”
