One woman has dropped her civil suit against Deshaun Watson, NFL Network reported Tuesday.
“We believe we have names for 20 of the 22 lawsuits,” Watson’s lawyer Rusty Hardin told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “We’ve got one dismissed and we’re looking for one [name].”
That leaves 21 Jane Does, many of whom are massage therapists, currently alleging sexual assault against the Texans quarterback. On Friday, a judge ruled that 14 of the plaintiffs would be required to disclose their identities. Two already had publicly identified themselves.
Tony Buzbee, the attorney for the women, released a statement Tuesday saying he is planning to amend all the complaints with names of the accusers.
“It appears the Watson team thinks that if these courageous women are forced to identify themselves, they would slink away and not pursue the matter,” Buzbee wrote in his statement. “Watson and his counsel badly miscalculated. … Today we are amending our petitions to include the names of the victims. Even those not currently subject to court order. The message to Watson’s team from these brave women is: ‘be careful what you ask for.’ ”
