NHL investigating referee saying he ‘wanted to get’ penalty against Nashville Predators

The NHL presently is probing a matter wherein one of its referee had been caught stating that he wished to get a penalty against Nashville Predators over their victory against Detroit Red Wings Tuesday in Tennessee.

Viktor Arvidsson, the Predators forward had been called due to tripping Jon Merrill, the defenseman for Red Wings during the second period, though the replays revealed that Merrill had embellished the trip for drawing the call.

Kelly Sutherland and Tim Peel were the two referees officiating the match. Peel seemed to call for a penalty on Arvidsson. With only 12:42 mins remaining during the second period, Nashville broadcast got hold of an audio recording from one official saying that it was not much but he wanted to get a penalty against the Predators early.

In its statement to ESPN, the league said that it is looking into the incident at present.

The Predators won the match 2-0.

The two teams received 3 penalties, while Predators took one forth penalty for placing the puck on the glass during third period.

Predators coach, John Hynes said that the referees are the employees of NHL and this is an issue that the league will need to take proper care of.
