Los Angeles Lakers embrace challenge of playing without LeBron James, Anthony Davis

The last game played by the Los Angeles Lakers two seasons ago felt more like a referendum- a forty two point lost at Indiana Pacers. The 128-111 loss on Tuesday to New Orleans Pelicans was not that for Lakers, the team is after all defending the NBA champions; however the resulting angst seemed eerily reminiscent.

Both Anthony Davis and LeBron James are out because of injuries, said Kyle Kuzma. It is a challenge but it is not something that the Lakers cannot overcome, he added.

The Pelicans match got ugly, while Lakers trailing around thirty points, while they played without their veteran defender Anthony as well as Marc Gasol, their starting center, who had missed 9th

consecutive game as he recovers after one stint in the coronavirus protocols of the league.

When the Lakers won over Indiana in 2019, stress stemmed from their pursuit of Anthony, with the young budding stars of the team wondering if the Sun was shining on their career starts in California.

These budding Lakers are not in a similar situation. A few of these from 2 years ago played differently, with Josh Hart getting 5 assists, 5 steals and 15 rebounds and Brandon Ingram leading the scorers over 36 points.

The Lakers are not aiming to make a major change to get a second veteran to be paired with James, but there still is pressure to enhance around the margins and increase their chances to win the championship the postseason.
