Giants acquire Billy Price for BJ Hill in trade with Bengals

In need of a boost to their offensive line, the Giants on Monday traded defensive end BJ Hill to the Bengals for center and guard Billy Price, according to NFL Network.

Price, a first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2018, started just one game last season for Cincinnati.

The 26-year-old has appeared in 42 games over three seasons.

Giants head coach Joe Judge said there was a lot of interest in Hill.

“I think he is a starting defensive lineman in this league,” Judge said. “He’s in a unique position in the [deep defensive lineman] room he’s in.

“He’s in the last year of his contract. I think this is an opportunity to improve our team and put a player we have a lot of respect for to go out there and get paid starter money. It’s something I think works out for both parties very well.”

Hill is in the final season of a four-year, $4.04 million contract signed as a third-round pick out of N.C. State.

The pick was part of the Giants’ return package for trading Jason Pierre-Paul to the Buccaneers.

Trading Hill could open up a spot for undrafted rookie defensive lineman Raymond Johnson, who has had a nice training camp. The Giants are starting Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams around a rotation of Austin Johnson and Danny Shelton in the middle of the defensive line.
