Kid reporters grill 'Luca' star Jacob Tremblay on speaking Canadian, collecting paychecks and playing a sea monster

A week after asking Jake Gyllenhaal to explain NFTs, our Kid Gloves hosts Lyla and Luna are back asking a celebrity more pressing questions. This time, it’s Luca star and popular young actor Jacob Tremblay.

Since first appearing in 2013’s The Smurfs 2 and making a noticeable impression in 2015’s Oscar-nominated drama Room, the 13-year-old Canadian has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors of any age, with roles in films like Wonder (2017), The Predator (2018), Good Boys (2019) and Doctor Sleep (2019). In Disney-Pixar’s latest gem Luca, he stars as the voice of the titular young sea monster who discovers he can turn into a human boy when coming onto land.

Naturally, Lyla, 8, and Luna, 5 (daughters of Yahoo Entertainment senior correspondent Kevin Polowy), wanted to know what it’s like to be a 13-year-old movie star.

What is it like to be 13, is it crazy?

Do his parents still tell him what to eat?

And does he collect anything else … besides paychecks?

That last one briefly stumped the gregarious Tremblay, who gamely played along, nonetheless.

“Um … that’s a good question, and I’m glad you phrased it like that. I guess I collect Funko Pops … I don’t really collect a lot of things. Except paychecks.”

Luca premieres June 18 on Disney+.
