The Book of Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison believes his character has a few too many lines.
In the Star Wars universe, fewer characters boast incredibly iconic imagery quite like Boba Fett does. First (canonically) introduced in 1980 with the release of The Empire Strikes Back, the Bounty Hunter’s Mandalorian armor became an instant hit with fans, and his apparent demise in the Sarlacc Pit in 1983’s Return of the Jedi was subject to much disappointment for fans.
Now that the iconic character made his triumphant return in The Mandalorian, he now has a series of his own, titled The Book of Boba Fett. The series, which stars Temuera Morrison in the role follows the character’s continuing adventures, and much more of the mystery surrounding one of the most-beloved characters in the Star Wars universe continues to unravel.
Interestingly enough, Temuera Morrison believes that the mysterious nature of Boba Fett is integral to the character, and he even felt that he may have had too much dialogue in the show. He tells NME that he would even suggest his co-star Ming-Na Wen would say lines that were written for him to keep the mysterious nature of the character alive:
“I was not very successful, I was hoping not to say as much as I have already in the first two episodes. I speak far too much. In fact, in the beginning, I was trying to pass my lines on to Ming-Na [Wen]. I said: ‘Excuse me director, I really feel that Ming-Na should say these lines, ’cause I wanna stay mysterious. I wanna stay quiet.Advertisement
Sometimes, I’d say [to Favreau], ‘I think this is too much, I think this is too much. I said: ‘Noah, this scene tomorrow. I’m talking too much! This Boba Fett doesn’t talk this much. Look, I’ve got all these paragraphs. I think we should get rid of it and Jon’s going to Atlanta so don’t tell him!
Then, that morning on set, I get a call from Atlanta: ‘Jon wants you to say all that dialogue. We’ll cut it out later.’ (laughs) So he was even keeping an eye on us from all areas.”
A common criticism in regards to the new era of Star Wars is its desire to explain almost every little detail regarding certain iconic characters. In this case, some have argued that it has severely impacted the mystery and lore behind them. With that in mind, it’s interesting to see that Temuera Morrison believes that the air of mystery for The Book of Boba Fett
